Agnes Mitchell Jacobia Hampton Roe

Agnes L. Mitchell, Jacobia, Hampton, Roe
Agnes Louise Roe, 90, of Wamego, died Sunday December 23,
2012 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Home in Wamego.
Agnes was born in Bendena, Kansas on September 14, 1922 the
daughter of Nelson and Mary Ellen (Clark) Mitchell. She was
raised in Horton, Ks. and graduated from Horton High School.
She worked for the Garment Factory in Horton from 1955 to 1968.
In 1968 she moved with her husband Hal to Topeka. From 1968
until her retirement she worked for the Good Samaritan Home
Topeka. Then in 2003 she moved to Wamego to be near her son
Jim Jacobia. She was a member of the University Methodist Church
in Topeka and a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Wamego. Where she served on many committees.
Agnes married Glenn D. Jacobia in June 1941. He preceded
her in death August 1959. She then married Leroy Hampton in
October 1960. He preceded her in death May 1965. She then
married Harold Roe in October 1968. He preceded her in death in
August 1978.
She enjoyed country music, singing in the church choir, doing
crossword puzzles; search a word, and watching old movies and
TV Land. But most of all she enjoyed baking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Jack L. Jacobia and his wife, Sandra,
of Indianapolis, In. James D. Jacobia and his wife, Carla of Wamego,
Delbert G. Jacobia and his wife, Karen of Salina, Ks. Five
granddaughters, two grandsons and two step-granddaughters.
Seven great granddaughters, ten great grandsons and one great,
great granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Larry D. Jacobia in
infancy.  Her parents, one brother and five sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 28,
2012 at Campanella Funeral Home in Wamego. Rev. Ronald
Williams will be officiating. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m.,
Friday before service.
Burial will be at the Sabetha Cemetery, Sabetha, Ks. They suggest
that memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and
those be sent in care of Campanella Funeral Home. Online

Beverly Freeby Gentry

 ROSSVILLE-Beverly Ann Gentry, 75, life's journey ended Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Her journey began January 15, 1937 at Sabetha, the daughter of Everette and Mary Jacobia Freeby. Beverly was raised in Centralia and later moved to Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1955. Mrs. Gentry lived in the Rossville community and wore many different hats. She was a farmer's wife and helped on the farm. Beverly worked as an Assistant Librarian for Rossville High School for 11 years. She was a fulltime mom and grandmother. She attended the Rossville Christian Church and was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years. Beverly was preceded in death by her father and an infant daughter Kimberly. She was united in marriage to Billy G. Gentry on June 12, 1955. He survives of the home. Other survivors include four sons, Rick (Peggy) Gentry, Rossville, Ron (Eva) Gentry, Rossville, Steve (Alyssa) Gentry, Topeka and Chad (Jennifer) Gentry, Rossville; her mother, Mary Freeby, Topeka; a brother, Everette Butch (Helen) Freeby, Ozawkie; two sisters, Dianna Berry and Debbie (Larry) Turner all of Topeka; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Beverly's greatest love in life was caring for her husband and family along with keeping a cozy home filled with love. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Rossville Christian Church. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Christopher Liam Salmond

(click on photo to enlarge) The Gilbert family welcomes a new member to the clan.  Christopher Liam Salmond was born 14 Sept 2012 the son of Christopher Wayne and Christi Salmond.  He has an older brother to welcome him as well, Christian Salmond.  His grandmother is Cathie Gilbert Scott; a great grandson of the late Robert A. and Naydean (Lee) Gilbert; great-great grandson of Ralph and Atha (Smith) Gilbert; great-great-great grandson of William A. and Mary Jane (Anderson) Gilbert; great-great-great-great grandson of Ezekiel and Jane (McGuire) Gilbert.

Marjorie Reynolds Lantz Owen

Marjorie was married to Kenneth Owen the son of Alice (Gilbert) and Bill Owen; Alice was the sister of Julia Jacobia, Oliver, Ralph, John, Raymond and Willie Gilbert.


Mrs. Marjorie Isabel (Reynolds) Lantz Owen, age 85, and resident of Bartlesville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 13, 2012, at her home in Bartlesville.
Marjorie Isabel Reynolds was born on March 20, 1927 in Morrill, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frederick Reynolds and Audrey Anna (Mellenbruch) Reynolds. She was raised in Fairview, Kansas where she attended school. She graduated from San Mateo, California High School in 1944; she then joined the Army Cadet Corp. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri she began working in the different hospitals. On January 5, 1946, Marjorie and Robert E. Lantz were united in marriage in Kansas City. After they were married, they made their home in Salina, Kansas. She began her career as a nurse's aid at St. Johns Hospital in 1956, retiring in 1989. After 49 years of marriage, Robert preceded her in death on April 23, 1995.
After her marriage to Kenneth Owen on November 26, 1998, Marjorie and he moved to Bartlesville and she resided there until her death.
Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Salina, Kansas. Some of her other memberships included the Peacemakers Sunday School Class; she served on the Election Board in Salina for many years; and was a leader for Brownies, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Some of the other things she enjoyed were Aquacize at the YWCA; gardening in her flower beds; and watching and caring for the birds. Marjorie loved and was loved deeply by all her family and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lantz; son, Steven Lantz; step-son, Stephan Owen; son-in-law, Robert Hull; three brothers, Francis Reynolds, Billy Reynolds and Maurice Reynolds.
Survivors include her husband of the home, Kenneth; three children, Donna Merlette of Hiawatha, Kansas, Susan Lantz of Blachly, Oregon, Teresa Hull of Fairview, Kansas; six step-children, Ronnie Owen and his wife, Karen, of Arlington, Texas, Don Owen and his wife, Gwen, of Bartlesville, Cheryl Brock and her husband, Joe, of Grove, Oklahoma, Kenny Owen of Edwardsville, Kansas, Naomi Warren and her husband, John, of Dodge City, Kansas, and Meredith Morton and her husband, Wesley, of Dodge City, Kansas; two sisters, Myrta Anderson and her husband, Charles, of Arvada, Colorado, and Anne Frey and her husband, John, of Mankato, Minnesota; two brothers, John Reynolds and his wife, Phyllis, of Illinois City, Illinois, and Paul Reynolds and his wife, Jolene, of Fairview, Kansas; and sister–in-law, Bonnie Reynolds of Fairview, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary Martha Outreach, Bartlesville; Animal Rescue Foundation of Bartlesville; or to East Bartlesville Christian Church, Bartlesville.
Memorial services for Marjorie will be held on Thursday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the East Bartlesville Christian Church, 3221 E. Tuxedo Blvd. In accordance with her wishes, Marjorie's body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Oliver Gilbert, son of William A. and Mary Jane (Anderson) Gilbert was born 20 Dec 1887 at Fairview, Kansas, died 27 April 1954, at Sabetha, Kansas, buried Sabetha cemetery.  He was married 20 February 1915 at Auburn, Nebraska to Lulah Mae Jacobia daughter of John Josephus and Martha (Higgins) Jacobia, was born 04 June 1899 at Capioma, Kansas, died 14 August 1992 at Sabetha, Kansas.

GILBERT Family Holds 72nd Reunion in Topeka Kansas


The Descendants of the William A. and Mary Jane (ANDERSON) GILBERT family who came to Kansas in 1859 held their 72nd reunion today at the Snyder Cabin shelter house in Gage Park, Topeka, KS.  A moderate crowd was in attendance, sharing memories and getting reacquainted.  Members from Texas, California, Ohio, Indiana as well as Kansas were represented.
Details of next years reunion and location are yet to be determined.

Ernest Lukert


Ernest O. Ernie Lukert, 95, of Sabetha, died May 11, 2012, in Sabetha. Ernie married Esther Gilbert, April 6, 1939 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Fairview. They later moved to a farm south of Sabetha where they farmed and raised cattle until they moved to Sabetha in 1993. His wife of 73 years survives of the home. He is also survived by a son Lee (Connie) Lukert of Sabetha; two daughters: Susie (Dick) Dalton of Prairie Village, KS, Linda (Dick) Devoe of Topeka; eight grandchildren: Jaclyn (Luke) Pfizenmaier, Michelle (Lance) Langvardt, all of Clay Center, KS, John and Jessica Dalton of Prairie Village, Mike Devoe, Any (Andy) Green, Derek (Lori) Snook, all of Topeka, Jonathan (Brandy) Snook of Gray, Georgia; and 14 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Ernie's life is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. The family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Larry Jacobia

Larry Jacobia, 67, Topeka KS, passed away April 20, 2012 at St. Francis Health Center. Larry was born, June 9, 1944 in Horton KS, the son of Ivan Leo and Margaret Evelyn (Wade) Jacobia. Larry graduated from Auburn High School. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1971. Larry married Sandra Artzer on April 15, 1972 in Topeka KS. He worked for Shawnee County Parks and Recreation in the maintenance department at Lake Shawnee and retired in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Jacobia; a daughter, Stacy Jacobia; a son, Matthew Jacobia; one grandson, Zachary Webb; beloved pet, Irie, all of Topeka. Other survivors include his siblings, Geraldine (Joseph) Wyzenski, LaVista NE, Janice (Joel) Sukman, Queens NY, Virginia (Joseph) Crai, Susan (John Thomas) Boatright, Peggy Broxterman, Kathy (Jim) Cutright, all of Topeka, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Patricia, Mary, Betty and a brother, Kenneth. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd., Topeka KS 66614, and funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Betty J. Gilbert, 83, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Manor Care Center on Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2011.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1927, at Seneca, Kan., and graduated from Seneca High School. She was married to Norman W. Gilbert on Sept. 7, 1947, at Seneca, and they lived in Beatrice.
She sold Avon for 13 years and also was a waitress at several area restaurants. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Asbury-Epworth Circle. She was a former Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and was a member of the Federated Women of Beatrice.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Gilbert and wife Diana of Clive, Iowa, and Dale Gilbert and wife Joyce of Friendswood, Texas; one daughter, Laurie Weiner and husband Rodney of Omaha; six grandchildren; one great-grandson and two stepgreat-grandsons; one sister, Patricia Tucker and husband Jim of Beatrice; one brother, Jack Barker and wife Clara of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Carol Barker of Montezuma, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Flossie Sedam Barker; her husband Norman, who died on Sept. 8, 1996; and two brothers, James and Robert Barker.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Sixth and Elk, Beatrice, with the Rev. Charles Spence officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday in the church library. A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield, Beatrice, until 9 p.m. Friday with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m., and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
